Our California Family Trip (and Welcome Back!)

How is your summer time going thus far? We missed you over the previous 10 days and are excited to catch up! Tomorrow we’re launching our redesign (we will’t wait to share with you), and I’m grateful we obtained to journey to California to go to family. Here are a number of journey pictures, should you’d prefer to see…

Sonoma vineyards

Family journeys can all the time have ups and downs (bear in mind this hilarious article?), however touring is a lot simpler now that the boys are older. First, we drove to Sonoma. I couldn’t imagine the fantastic thing about driving previous vineyards, and I saved telling everybody to pinch themselves. “I feel like we’re in Parent Trap,” Toby stated reverently.

Sonoma airbnb

My dad and twin sister joined us at an Airbnb, and it was such a celebration to all be collectively after nearly two years aside.

We ended up falling right into a routine: Every morning, whereas the opposite adults slept or labored, the boys and I might get up, eat breakfast, and instantly head to TrainTown, which is an lovely amusement park with six rides surrounded by timber. You may also take a 20-minute practice trip, which stops midway via so you may feed goats and alpacas. The boys liked it a lot, we went all 4 days in a row. (I might watch them from a shady bench and take heed to podcasts:)

In the afternoons, we’d swim and loosen up on the home. One day, my dad, my sister and Alex went wine tasting, however the boys watched a film and I dozed on the couch as a result of typically doing completely nothing is the perfect, don’t you assume?

In the evenings, we’d eat dinner collectively on the deck. (It’s humorous, I feel my sister and I look a lot extra like twins now that we’ve gotten older. We had been so completely different as children!)

pasta vegetable

My sister additionally made this scrumptious pasta, which is predicated on a recipe by my pal Gisela. Here it’s: “Cook frozen peas separately. Cook pasta separately. Shave a bunch of Parmesan in big pan, sauté garlic, add cut asparagus, salt asparagus, cook until asparagus is halfway cooked (bright green but not al dente yet). Add enough heavy cream to cover asparagus, bring to simmer, cook until asparagus done, throw in peas. Take off heat, then add Parmesan. Stir until Parmesan is melted. Pour pasta into sauce.” YUM.

Mendocino kids hike

After three nights in Sonoma, we stated goodbye to my dad and sister and drove up the coast to Mendocino. We stayed in a lodge for 2 nights, however I’d really suggest staying in an Airbnb within the village as a result of it’s so charming and foggy and quaint.

On our drive again to town, we stopped at Hendy Woods State Park to see the redwoods. Toby was grumpy (hikes, guys), however Anton liked strolling on fallen tree trunks and maintaining his eye out for bears.
